Parameter templates

Some parameters accept a template instead of a fixed value

Cloud Management Platform (CMP) fills in the template for each new server, using details from the order.

For example, a hostname template of {{ requestor.user.username }}-00X names each server after the person who ordered it and adds a number that makes the name unique. The user doesn’t need to enter a hostname.

Parameters that accept templates

Parameter What it sets Topic
Hostname Template (hostname_template) The hostname of each new server Hostname specification
Annotation (annotation) The notes on each new server Annotations specification

Set these parameters on a group or environment like any other parameter. A blueprint’s server tier also has its own Hostname template field. Each parameter has its own context variables, listed in its topic.

Other fields that use templates

These fields aren’t parameters, but they use the same template format:

  • Resource Name Template on a blueprint
  • Virtual folder path on a VMware resource handler
  • Body and From Address on an email action
  • Commandline args on a remote script action

The template format CMP uses

CMP uses the Django template format. These resources cover it:

Hostname specification

Annotations specification
