IPMI
2 minute read
The handler holds no connection details. Each server has its own IPMI address and credentials, which CMP uses to send power commands to that server’s BMC. CMP supports one IPMI resource handler per installation, so the IPMI tile is hidden once one exists.
Add an IPMI resource handler
- Go to Admin > Resource Handlers, select Add, then select IPMI.
- In the Add an IPMI Resource Handler dialog, enter a Name and, optionally, a Description.
- Leave the remaining fields empty. Stop if server on applies only to builds that network-boot the server.
- Select Done.
Create an environment
CMP does not create an environment for the IPMI resource handler. Create one so servers can be ordered:
- Go to Admin > Environments, select Add, then select Create New.
- Enter a Name, select the IPMI handler under Resource Handler, then select Create.
IPMI parameters
CMP creates the following parameters when the IPMI resource handler is saved. All but IPMI Port are required, and they are requested by the order form when a server is ordered into an IPMI environment.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| IPMI IP | The IP address of the server’s BMC. |
| IPMI Account | A BMC account authorized to control the server’s power. |
| IPMI Password | The password for that account. |
| MAC Address | The MAC address of the server’s primary network interface. |
| IPMI Port | Optional. The BMC’s IPMI port. If not set, CMP uses 623. |
Manage IPMI servers
From CMP, you can power IPMI servers on and off and set power schedules. Powering off is a hard power-off through the BMC, not an operating system shutdown.
Deleting an IPMI server in CMP powers the server off. Nothing on the server is removed.
