# Parameter templates

> Some parameters accept a template instead of a fixed value

Cloud Management Platform (CMP) fills in the template for each new server, using details from the order.

For example, a hostname template of `{{ requestor.user.username }}-00X` names each server after the person who ordered it and adds a number that makes the name unique. The user doesn't need to enter a hostname.

## Parameters that accept templates

| Parameter | What it sets | Topic |

Set these parameters on a group or environment like any other parameter. A blueprint's server tier also has its own *Hostname template* field. Each parameter has its own context variables, listed in its topic.

## Other fields that use templates

These fields aren't parameters, but they use the same template format:

- *Resource Name Template* on a blueprint
- *Virtual folder path* on a VMware resource handler
- *Body* and *From Address* on an email action
- *Commandline args* on a remote script action
