Send email automatically

Once SMTP is configured, Cloud Management Platform (CMP) sends emails automatically

Each one is rendered from a built-in, customizable email template.

Orders

  • When an order needs approval, CMP emails the approvers for that order’s group. See Users.
  • Send Reminder on the order sends approvers another request.
  • When an order is finished, CMP emails the requester with the result. This is controlled by the Email on order completion setting in Email Settings, enabled by default.
  • When an order that names a recipient finishes successfully, that recipient is emailed.

Rules and actions

Several built-in rules send email as their action. You can see the pattern in the Then behavior of the Notify admins when a newer version of CloudBolt is available rule, and copy it in your own rules.

  • Email owners of AWS VMs Missing Required Tags emails the owner of each AWS server that is missing a required tag.
  • Expire Resources tells resource owners that a resource has expired. After a set number of days, it also creates a deletion job.
  • Email group admins when quota usage over threshold emails every member of the group who holds the Manage Subgroup Quotas permission.

One built-in orchestration action also sends mail: Email Owners of Expired Servers, at the Pre-Expire Server trigger point, sends each owner a daily list of expired servers until they delete them. See Rules and Plugins.

Job failures

These are sent to the CB Admin address configured in Email Settings.

  • Synchronizing VMs from resource handlers, or servers from provision engines, emails on failure.
  • An LDAP user synchronization job sends an email when it cannot synchronize permissions.
  • A Continuous Infrastructure Testing job emails when a test fails.
  • The job engine emails when a job has outrun three times the global timeout, if automatic restart is enabled. See Restart the job engine.

Management commands

Some of the commands run on the appliance send emails:

  • check_for_stale_jobs, quota_monitor, and rates_monitor email on failure, to the addresses given with --emails or to the CB Admin address. Pass --noemail to skip.
  • export_server_info delivers its report by email. Use --email-to for specific addresses, or --email-group-admins to send each group its own report, addressed to that group’s admins.
  • Email: SMTP settings and the addresses emails are sent to and from.
  • Email templates: The built-in templates and how to customize them.
  • Send email manually: Sending mail from your own plugins, actions, and reports.
