Commitments

Gain full visibility into your Reserved Instances (RIs) and Savings Plans (SPs) across your AWS and Azure accounts

Track what you’ve purchased, how well those commitments are being used, how much you’re saving, and where money is being wasted.

Commitments has a page per cloud: Commitments (AWS) and Azure Commitments, each with five tabs: Dashboard, Inventory, Savings, Waste, and Performance. Most views offer a Time Range selector (1, 3, 6, or 12 months) and, where relevant, a Billing Account filter that scopes data to one payer account.

Access the Commitments page

  1. Log in to the CloudBolt Platform.
  2. In the sidebar, select Commitments to expand it, then choose AWS or Azure.

Dashboard

The Dashboard summarizes your commitment portfolio with three KPI cards:

  • Net Savings: Savings from commitments (RIs and Savings Plans) minus unused commitment waste.
  • Coverage: The percentage of your eligible cloud spend covered by an RI or SP.
  • Utilization: The percentage of your purchased commitment capacity actually being consumed.

On AWS, the Dashboard also includes an Effective Cost Over Time chart breaking spending into On-Demand, Committed, and Other over time, and a Commitment Health by Account table showing each account’s coverage percentage, on-demand equivalent, effective cost, and total savings. The Azure Dashboard shows the KPI cards only.

Inventory

The Inventory tab lists your Reserved Instances and Savings Plans.

AWS: each row shows the commitment’s status, type (RI or SP), account, service, instance type, region, payment type, start and end dates, units, and commitment value, with a View link to its detail page. Summary counts show totals by status (Active, Pending, Retired). Filter by Status, Type, Account, Service, Instance Type, Region, and Payment Type.

Azure: a per-commitment view derived from FOCUS billing data. Each row shows the commitment’s type, name, subscription, service, SKU family, region, term, utilization, and waste. Filter by Type, Subscription, Service, SKU Family, and Region, with a Billing Account filter and Time Range selector. Purchase dates are not shown, since Azure commitment costs are amortized in billing data rather than dated by purchase.

Commitment detail

On AWS, select a commitment to view its full detail page, which includes:

  • Metadata: Type, service, instance type, account, region, status, payment type, term dates, and units (RIs) or hourly commitment (SPs).
  • Financials: Used list cost, used effective cost, gross savings, unused cost, and net savings.
  • Utilization Over Time: A chart showing the used vs. unused portions of the commitment’s capacity by month.
  • Consuming Accounts: A table showing which accounts are using this commitment: each account’s share of the commitment, effective cost, on-demand equivalent, and savings.

Savings

The Savings tab helps you understand where your commitments are delivering the most value.

  • Savings Over Time: A monthly chart showing Gross Savings and Waste as bars with a Net Savings line, over the selected time range.
  • Savings by Customer (AWS): A table breaking down savings by account: on-demand equivalent, effective cost, waste, and net savings.
  • Savings by Subscription (Azure): gross savings per consuming subscription. Waste is attributed to the purchasing subscription on the Waste tab, so the table total can exceed the net-savings headline.

Waste

The Waste tab surfaces commitment capacity you’re paying for but not using.

  • AWS: an Unused Cost by Commitment chart stacking waste per commitment over time, and a Top Unused Commitments table (commitment ID, service, unused cost) linking to each commitment’s detail page.
  • Azure: a Waste Over Time chart and a Waste by Subscription table. Waste is attributed to the subscription that purchased the commitment.

Performance

The Performance tab charts utilization and coverage over time.

  • AWS: two charts, RI Utilization & Coverage and SP Utilization & Coverage, each plotting utilization (solid line) and coverage (dashed line) as percentages by month, with Billing Account and Time Range controls.
  • Azure: a single Utilization & Coverage chart with RI Utilization, SP Utilization, and Coverage series, tenant-wide with a Time Range control.
