## Before you begin

1. Read the [Release notes](/docs/onefuse/release-notes/).
1. Back up your OneFuse instance by cloning the VM or taking a snapshot.

## Upgrade OneFuse

There are two methods to upgrade OneFuse:

1. **Option 1:** Command Line
1. **Option 2:** Yum Repository

### Option 1: Upgrade via the command line

OneFuse upgraders are distributed as `.tgz` archives.

The upgrader is designed to save customizations you have made and not lose information, but be sure to review the Release Notes for any changes that may affect your OneFuse instance.
</div>

1. **Download** the Upgrader `.tgz`

   [Access CloudBolt's Download Article for CMP/OneFuse 2023.5](https://support.cloudbolt.io/cloudbolt/s/article/cloudbolt-2023-5--1983840286--1).

   The article will always contain the latest Appliance Upgrade Link.
   </div>

   1. Log in with your **CloudBolt Connect** account.
   1. Download CloudBolt Upgrader.

1. **SSH** to the target OneFuse appliance
   - `ssh` as root user, switch the `root` user with "sudo su -" and then run required commands.
1. **Move** the downloaded Upgrader `.tgz` file into the `/var/tmp` directory

   ```bash
   #Replace cloudbolt_upgrader_#.#.#_{uniqueID} with the name of the upgrader .tgz file
   mv /path/to/cloudbolt_upgrader_#.#.#_{uniqueID}.tgz /var/tmp/
   ```

1. **Navigate** to the `/var/tmp` directory:

   ```bash
   cd /var/tmp
   ```

1. **Open** (untar) the Upgrader `.tgz` file:

   ```bash
   #Replace cloudbolt_upgrader_#.#.#_{uniqueID} with the name of the upgrader .tgz file
   tar xzf cloudbolt_upgrader_#.#.#_{uniqueID}.tgz
   ```

1. **Navigate** to the uncompressed directory that was from the Upgrader `.tgz` file:

   ```bash
   #Replace cloudbolt_upgrader_#.#.#_{uniqueID} with the name of the upgrader folder
   cd cloudbolt_upgrader_#.#.#_{uniqueID}
   ```

1. If the OneFuse database is on another server:
   1. Edit the `install_config` file to specify the **mysql_host**.
   1. Save the file
1. **Run the upgrade command**:

   ```bash
   ./upgrade_cloudbolt.sh
   ```

1. OneFuse will upgrade to the new version.

### Option 2: Upgrade via Yum repository

To help make upgrades more reliable, we have removed operating-system packages (RPMs) from the Installer and Upgrader.

The Upgrader will now update all system requirements to the latest versions available.

#### OneFuse with public internet access

Users who would like to upgrade OneFuse should first verify that their appliances have a `Yum` repository available before running the upgrader:

1. **SSH** into the OneFuse Appliance
1. Run the following command:

   ```bash
   yum check-update
   ```

If your appliances are hosted in firewalled environments, you may need to add proxy settings to those appliances' `yum config`:

1. In the yum config file `/etc/yum.conf`, define the proxy settings to the following:

   ```ini
   #Replace <Proxy-Server-IP-Address>, <Proxy_Port>, <Proxy-Username>, and <Proxy-Password>
   [main]
   ………………
   proxy=http://<Proxy-Server-IP-Address>:<Proxy_Port>
   proxy_username=<Proxy-Username>
   proxy_password=<Proxy-Password>
   ………………
   ```

1. Save and exit the file.
1. Start using the `yum` command.
   - Run a command like the following to check if you are able to fetch the packages:

     ```bash
     #[root@yourfolder ~]
     yum repolist
     ```

#### OneFuse without public internet access

Users who are not able to access a public `Yum` repository have two options for upgrading their appliances:

1. Host an internal Yum repository mirror.
   - Refer to [CentOS docs](https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/CreateLocalMirror) for instructions.
1. Upgrade by installing a new CloudBolt Appliance OVA. Refer to [Install from OVA](/docs/onefuse/installation/install-from-ova/).

## Verify the upgrade

In the [OneFuse UI](/docs/onefuse/getting-started/ui-overview/):

- The version number will appear on the initial OneFuse Log In page
- Once logged in, select the **Resources** (help icon) to also view the currently installed version
