Parameter options

A parameter can be limited to a fixed set of options at the group, environment, blueprint, or parameter level. Its options can also be generated at runtime by an orchestration action. When more than one of these applies to the same parameter, Cloud Management Platform (CMP) resolves them in a set order, described below.

How option order is determined

A blueprint’s options win outright. If the blueprint defines options for the parameter, that is the list the requestor sees. See Blueprint-level parameters.

If the blueprint defines none, the list is the union of the options on the group and the options on the environment.

Generated options are used as they come back, unless the blueprint, group, or environment also define options. In that case, the result is the intersection of the generated list and those options. To bypass that filtering, see Option return formats.

If none of the above yields any options, CMP falls back to the global options set on the parameter. If none of those apply, the requestor gets a free-form entry field, still subject to any constraints.

Two behaviors follow from this:

Static options

The values a requestor can choose from are configured on the blueprint, the group, and the environment they are ordering from. A parameter can also carry a list of its own, set on the parameter. These options are static and do not change at order time. To build a list at runtime instead, see Generated parameter options.

Where options are defined

On a group or an environment. Open the group or environment, then go to the Parameters tab.

On a blueprint. See Blueprint-level parameters.

On the parameter itself. Go to Admin > Parameters and open the parameter. Its list sits under Global Options, or under Static Options when the parameter is an action input.

Global options are not supported for password parameters. For those, use a global default or set options at the environment, group, or blueprint level instead.
