IP ranges

An IP range is an alternative to static addressing, DHCP, or asking the requester to supply an address. CMP tracks which addresses in the range are free, and which are in use, so each is issued only once. The range is held in an adjustable resource pool.

A network with an IP range overrides a configured addressing scheme.

Add an IP range

Go to Admin > Networks and select the network’s name.

Select the IP Pool tab and select Add Range of IPs.

Enter a Starting IP and an Ending IP. CMP adds the starting IP and every address after it up to the ending IP, except addresses ending in
.0
,
.1
, or
.255
. Add those from the pool’s Values tab if you need them.

Select Add.

When the network records a gateway and a netmask, CMP fills both fields with the first and last usable addresses, omitting the network, gateway, and broadcast addresses. Accept those or narrow them.

The setup workflow is common to all IPAM integrations: connect, import the networks, map them to your resource handler networks, and then enable orchestration. See IP address management (IPAM) for those steps. This page covers what is specific to BlueCat.

Connection details

In Admin > IP Management, select Add, then choose BlueCat.

Field

Description

Name

A name for this connection.

IP address

The address or hostname of the BlueCat server.

Port

Defaults to 443.

Account username

An account authorized to run commands on the BlueCat server.

Password

The password for that account. It is stored securely. If the password vault feature is enabled, this field offers Locally Stored or Vault Managed. Select Vault Managed to read the secret from a configured vault provider. See Use password vaults.

A server will not get an address

The domain comes from the DNS Domain value on the CMP network. When it is set, CMP registers the host as
<hostname>.<domain>
in BlueCat, so the domain must be one BlueCat knows. If the two do not agree, BlueCat refuses to register the host against the IP, and provisioning fails. If the network has no DNS Domain, CMP reserves the IP address without creating a host record.

In phpIPAM, log in as an administrator and create an API key, setting the App Security to SSL with User token. You will enter that key’s app ID in CMP.
